As an acoustic music enthusiast, I regularly organize concerts for the Ensemble ad Infinitum, and participate in various orchestras including the Hong Kong University Students' Union Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Medical Association Orchestra. With some experience as a performer and administrator, I tried to produce live recordings for my fellow orch-mates.
Thanks to the Internet, from which I have been learning how to make my recordings. I started simply with a pocket stereo microphone connecting to a minidisc recorder. Later, I bought myself an overhead microphone stand to get a good balance of sound. In late 2006, when this web site was created, I eventually started to explore various professional recording techniques (with a lot of investment indeed).
I specialise in producing digital live recordings on-location. My equipment are generally portable (the microphone stands are the most bulky and heavy stuff), so allowing me to record everywhere and experience the timbre of different rooms and halls.
My recordings aim to capture live moments with natural ambience. Mixing of rehearsal session materials into live recordings has never been done. All audio clips are free from filter, compression, artificial reverb or noise reduction processes. Post-event editing is limited to cropping tracks and fading out applause.
The recorded events are listed in reverse chronological order on your right. You can share these recordings with your friends for personal use without modification. If you wish to modify my audio files, or use it for other purpose, please let me know beforehand (my email is here).
Looking for someone to record your performance? Feel free to contact me for discussion.
listening tips
1. To download music, right click and select "save target as..."
2. These recordings have large dynamic range. Built-in speakers on laptops and mobile devices are not recommended. Please use earphones or hi-fi system for louder and clearer playback
3. Audio files are in compressed MP3 format for ease of download. They do not reflect the true quality of the original 24bit PCM recordings. To maximize your enjoyment, obtain an audio CD from me.
